What You Need To Know About Light?
This Deepavali, learn more about the Science of Light. After all the festival, also known as the festival of light got its name from rows of clay lamps that Indians everywhere around the world light outside their house to symbolise the victory of light over darkness.

- Light travels in straight lines.
- Light can be reflected off some objects.
- Light can be blocked. A shadow is formed when light is completely or partially blocked by an object.
- Light is a form of energy. It is not matter.
- Light does not have mass.
- Light does not have volume, it does not occupy space.
- Transparent objects allow all or most light to pass through.
- Translucent objects only allow some light to pass through.
- Opaque objects do not allow light to pass through.
When object is placed in between the light source and a screen, a shadow is formed on the screen. The following 3 ways will increase the size of the shadow.
- Move the light source nearer to the object.
- Move the object nearer to the light source.
- Move the screen further away from the object.
